A Love Spell for the New Moon: Anointing the Path to Sacred Partnership

I observed my own giddy state while gathering herbs & flowers from my newly curated apothecary, to prepare a love oil on this new moon. I have been excited & fascinated by the idea of potions, spells and herbal remedies and elixers since I was a kid and this moment brought me back to the woods of my childhood, mixing potions from leaves and marsh water with my girlfriends, enchanted by the idea that nature held answers and spells. And now, I’ve relocated back to where I first experimented  decades ago and after years of transition, deep soul excavation, and walking through some of the darkest corridors of identity and self-worth, here I am, I am here (an affirmation I found helpful when grounding in new locations during my year of travel). And now, I’m ready to call in love – a life partner, a father to my children.

The Herbal Cast!

Why This New Moon?

New moons mark beginnings—ripe ground for planting intentions. This one, anchored in Taurus (my sun sign), carries a particular charge. Taurus is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, pleasure. Add to that the energetic momentum I’ve been riding since working with Bobinsana tincture, witnessing manifestations rolling in fast and furiously, this night feels like a divine window to call in my partner.

The Ritual Begins

Everything felt intentional. I dressed up—not for anyone else, but for myself. I wrapped my hair in a scarf I bought in Izmir, Turkey, thinking of Ece, my Workaway host-turned-sister, who reignited my love for herbalism. In her kitchen on her organic homestead, we created salves, lotions and potions from her garden herbs. That scarf, that memory, felt like a blessing in itself.

I used apricot kernel oil as my base for the properties listed below, made by a witchy local herbalist in Salem, Massachusetts. Salem. (Yes, that Salem—the one thick with history, persecution, and reclaimed power. There’s something deeply poetic about sourcing magic from those grounds.)

  • Texture: Lightweight and absorbs quickly, perfect for anointing
  • Healing: Rich in vitamins A and E, gentle on the heart and womb
  • Aroma: Neutral, so the herbs can shine
  • Shelf life: Holds up well over time

The Infusion Process

I prayed to the herbs, thanked them, asked for their wisdom. I visualized a golden heart wrapping them in light. I felt warmth in my chest and belly—a sign they were with me.

I poured two cups of apricot kernel oil over the herbs in a double boiler and let it simmer gently for two hours. Once cool, I strained the oil, added geranium essential oil for sweetness, and dropped in two stones: a garnet from my grandmother and an opal for expansion and soul beauty.

The Alchemical Process

I prayed with the herbs, and spoke to them as old friends. Asked for their blessing, their guidance. I visualized a golden heart, like a ribbon coming from my own heart, wrapping around them in golden light. My heart and belly warmed and I felt their reciprocated love.

I poured 2 cups of apricot kernel oil over the blend and let it infuse gently in the double boiler for two hours. After cooling and straining, I added a few drops of geranium and madagascar vanilla essential oil, bottled it, and even dropped in my Grandmother’s garnet stone for an addition of powerful loving energy.
